Director of this year’s blockbuster Avatar James Cameron seems to have a bit of an issue with “Fanboys” saying he has ripped off the look of Bungie’s Halo series for the film. Speaking in an interview for G4 Cameron blasted the nerds with the following:
“The funniest thing is when some of the so-called Fanboys get up trashing Avatar for looking too much like Halo. Pay attention. If I’m referencing anything, I’m referencing the source work for Halo, which is my own stuff. So I get to do that. Nobody else gets to do that, but I get to do that. My rule, anyway.”
Reports of Cameron being sent to bed early with no supper for the outburst can’t be confirmed at this stage.
In fairness to JC I’m sure even Bungie themselves wouldn’t deny the fact that the halo games borrow heavily from Cameron’s classic film Aliens, from the Marines body armour and weapons to the style of the vehicles, even some of the quotes in the games are direct from film. So he kinda has a point I guess. Maybe he should step up and do the Halo film himself, I couldn’t think of anyone better to do it!
